Ernie attended the famous Dwight Marrow High School. Ernie resides in St. Louis, Missouri. He started playing drums at twelve years old. His first live wagon as a member of his brothers' band was as a drummer in 1966 at the age of fourteen. he was influenced by American singer Jose Feliciano's version of the "Light My Fire" song and in 1968 got his first guitar instrument. He is a self-taught musician. In 1968 Ernie did his first professional recording album, playing bass on the Isley Brothers' breakthrough funk smash "It's Your Thing" song, released in 1969. Ernie played electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and drums on the group's early 1970s albums Get Into Something song, Givin It Back song in 1973.

Vernon Isley died in 1955. He was a singer and one of the original members of the family band The Isley Brothers during the time the group began its career as a gospel quartet where Vernon shared co-lead singing duties with older brother Ronald. Vernon was killed at age 13 when his bicycle collided with an oncoming car in his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. The Isley Brothers stopped performing for a few months, unable to deal with the tragedy. Their parents advised them to keep on going with the family group, which they did, reviving the group in 1956 with Ronald as the group's only lead vocalist.

Marvin Isley began playing bass guitar while in high school and by the end of the decade was being learned and mentored by his elder brothers alongside elder brother Ernie and their friend singer Chris Jasper, who was an inlaw. By 1971, Marvin Isley began performing bass guitar instruments on The Isley Brothers' album, Givin It Back album. Within two years, Marvin became an official member of the music band group. His best songs are "Fight the Power", "The Pride" and "Between the Sheets ". Breaking away in 1984, formed the trio, Isley Jasper Isley who had a hit in 1985 with the "Caravan of Love " song.
